Stopped off at Brownhills facilities for water and so on. Shopping at Tesco and FarmFoods (some really good value fruit).
Train to Rugby to cast my vote in the elections like a good little citizen. The No12 bus driver doesn't like passengers.
Bumped into Craig who can organise coal, gas and diesel on the Wyrly and Essington.
Arrived in the rain in time to see the coronation on TV, glad we watched it.
Saw the 040 diesel 15099 - tiny shunting engine used in the Morris factory in it's hey day.
Day out on Chasewater Heritage Railway - excellent.
Travelled from Brownhills West Station to Chasetown (Church Street) Station via
Norton Lakeside Halt and Chasewater Heaths Station. As there are no restirctions as to which seats we could occupy we tried the First Class carriage.
Had my first Cafe Coffee since I cannot remember when, no bad or side effects.
Stopped off at Brownhills Canoe Club facilities to fill up with water and replenish provisions for a few days, then on to Pellsall Common. Fortunately we missed most of the rain.
Up the Cannock Extension Canal arm for a while just to see what it is like up there.Turned round at the Old Brownhills Colliery Basins
Moored up and got chatting to a local resident who advised us to move a couple of hundred yards to avoid the "Druggie Corridoor", always willing to listen to local information..
Worked our way back down the Wolverhampton flight. All in all bnot the best experience we have enjoyed while travelling. Due to rubbish in the canal, the proximity of drug use to the tow path and mooring locations, the favourite activity of the local youths firing stones at the boat with catapults I do not think we will return here. It is a pity as last time I was here I did have a pleasant journey around the area, even if I did have to avoid someones shed in the canal.
I do like to exercise the few brain cells I have left, but at the same time I do not want to overtax them and wear them out. I have heard that alcohol tends to kill brain cell but if Darwin was at all correct it will kill off the old and week first so I am left with the youngest and fittest which must be a good thing.
Very pleasant days cruising, stopped off at a quarter past two, just because.
Penkridge Market, my favourite market as it seems to have many items that I cannot find elsewhere. Today I got a half cheese of Fiery Jack, four other speciality cheeses, some new mugs, some gloves, some fish and my No2 got a dress.
Arrived at Tixall Wide with Dennis, I walked along to Anglo Welsh and collected Iowner for our next adventure along the Leeds &apm; Liverpool canal.
Took Dennis to Penkridge. Met Jamie Fergusson and discussed some weldding wok I want done. He can do it as he is mobile but not until July, keep in tough by email.
Took Iowner to Penkridge. I have an appointment for my shingles jab in Rugby tomorrow. Most injections I can get done locally one way or another but the Shingles jab has to be domne by my doctors practice, do not understand why.
Took the train to Rugby to get my Shingles jab, took all day but I did weigh myself while I was there, 75Kg.
Took Dennis to Gailey.
Taxi booked for 10am at Gailey Wharf to take us to Penkridge Market where I got some dremel bits to try my hand at a bit of wood carving.
Took Iowner to Gailey.
The paint on my roof comes off more easily if I use some cloths soaked in hot water. The paint in question is the Weathershield with anti slip grit embedded in it on the roof/ It never was vey secure in the first place.
Managed to strip the non slip paint off one half of the rear end of the roof on Iowner.
Trip into Autherley to do some shopping and back, turning the boat around in the process ready to prepare the other side.
Spent most of the day preparing Dennis and Iowner for painting.
Stgarted making some steps for the fromt of Iowner in a similar vein the the steps at h the rear, ie with storage boxes built in.
