Wonder upon wonder there were volunteers at Johnsons Hill Locks and the repairs needed when we went up in June still had not been done. Earlier on in the year we had considered overwintering on the Leeds&Liverpool around the Skipton area but in retrospect decided that the weather would not be good and coupled with that if the water levels did not recover and the repair were not completed we could be stuck there indefinitely.

Set off determined to make as much headway as we could as we were on our own. After the first couple of locks a volunteer appeared and assisted us down the whole flight, taking a break for lunch between locks 77 and 78 to go and attend a meeting with the local youth club. His help made a daunting task considerably easier with the both of us working the locks while my No2 took the boat into and out of each lock in turn. Fish and chips for dinner.

The maps indicate an elsan disposal point here but we couldn't see it anywhere. We mentioned this to a likely looking boater and she told us that it had been abandoned a year or so ago but if you lift he manhole cover (over there) you can dump the contents of your elsan down there. Found the manhole cover, lifted it, not as bad as it might have been and disposed of our waste.Replaced the cover and went on our way.
